New IP Infrastructure control solution using a Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) IP switch
MONTREAL, May 26, 2015 — Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, will join more than 600 international exhibitors at Broadcast Asia 2015 to demonstrate its advanced products and solutions for the pro-audio, film and TV industries. Attendees will be at the event June 2—5, 2015, at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore to network, exchange business ideas, gather market information and source the latest broadcast products and solutions. Grass Valley will be located in stand 5B3-01.
During the event, Grass Valley will be featuring its latest advances in 4K capture and production workflows for better storytelling, replay solutions for more flexible coverage of live events, and IP-based infrastructure to provide format-agnostic, scalable signal management while reducing cable count, along with cloud technologies for improved operational efficiency and much more.
“From live production, playout and media workflow to editing and news, we offer solutions that are designed to not only fit our customers’ needs today but also give them a platform for growth in the future,” said Andrew Thornton, vice president, Asia Pacific, Grass Valley. “Right now, there is a lot of interest in 4K/UHD capture as well as the transition to an IP infrastructure, and we have exciting new offerings in both areas. This will be a very key show for 2015 in the region.”

Formally introduced just last month, GV Convergent SDN makes routing IP video and audio appear the same as routing serial digital interface (SDI) to an operator, providing transparent control. GV Convergent SDN leverages proven IT technologies, such as commercial off the shelf (COTS) IP routing switches and software-defined network (SDN) control, to maximize flexibility with a simple-to-use system that provides seamless control of IP and SDI infrastructure. The initial release of GV Convergent SDN targets customers who want to make use of IP alongside SDI or as an entrance into IP networking for video and audio signals.
At Broadcast Asia 2015, Grass Valley and NoviFlow are working together to show a live IP demonstration. Using the NoviSwitch 1248 with GV Convergent SDN, compressed or uncompressed IP signal flows can be switched to any device and destination using familiar control surfaces. The system is provided in a stand-alone, self-contained, 1RU-mountable enclosure box that can be configured to support a wide variety of networking applications to deliver unmatched performance levels.
NoviFlow switches deliver maximum OpenFlow capability in a compact form factor and are designed for deployment in data centers looking to leverage the benefits of SDN to improve the cost/performance, security, scalability and flexibility of networks. The NoviSwitch 1248 allows switching of up to 60 uncompressed SMPTE-2022-6 3G video signals. Visitors can see the system at the Grass Valley stand.
Presentation in the conference program
